This is from Sorabji.MOBI. I would think even the tiniest kittens hiding underneath a car would skedaddle the moment they heard and felt the engine fire up. It reminds me of the old riddle: There are 4 crows on a telephone wire. You shoot one of them, killing it. How many are left? The wrong answer is “three”. The right answer is “zero” because the other birds would fly off at the sound of gunfire. Unless, of course, the sniper happened to be using a silencer and shooting from far enough away that the gunshot would be unheard. In that case I do not know enough about crows to know if the sudden death/disappearance of one of theirs would spark any reaction. I vividly remember a swarm of seagulls circling around one of their dead when a kid from my grade school class threw something at a bird, knocking it to the ground and killing it. I had never seen or heard of Hitchcock’s The Birds at the time but I remembered this incident when I eventually saw it.
