At first I couldn’t tell if this was vandalism or some municipal signage screw-up. Pedestrians and drivers at 38th Avenue in Long Island City/Astoria on Sunday, November 8, 2015, were suddenly transported 100 blocks to 138th Avenue in Laurelton, Queens:

Upon closer scrutiny of 20+ megapixel point-and-shoot photography this appears to be mere vandalism. The number 1 was taped on. This 38th Avenue sign is way high off the ground, making such vandalism a lot of work and a long way to go to execute a seemingly meaningless stroke of anarchy. I’m thinking righteously blameless hipsters are involved.
