Pretty much nothing worked for me today. The expensive scanner no longer scans. Yahoo’s SMTP servers won’t let me send mail. A video game I was playing just stopped playing, closing down with no explanation. Tried writing some new piano music but got nowhere. Had to take an anxiety pill, i=I think as a symptom of aftershocks from the other day at the Larry Wilmore show.

Getting ready to pull the plug on FB again, even though a few interesting and edifying links passed me by. Ugo, the French filmmaker who did the payphone documentary, ahd an interesting thing about a 9 year old girl photographed smoking a cigarette and wearing crazy fake nails. NPR tracked her down many years later and found she’d been in some trouble in life, and that she wanted to see the photo but never did until the photographer died and journalists got hold of it, using it to hunt her down.

But FB just looks like a depressing wasteland to me now. I’m going to stay above the fray (hah) with web site fan pages, but that’s about it. Won’t fully cancel/delete, as a friend of mine did recently.

I’ve always liked the “Where are they now?” conceit when it ends a documentary or historical film. I watched a little bit of “REDS” last week. REDS was a faovrite film from my impressionable youth. it stands up reasonably well today as a romance thing but historically it is very lightweight on the Russian revolution. Anyway, that film ends with Jack Reed dying in a Russian hospital, his wife Louise at bedside. Even in high school I was offended that no mention of what became of Louise ended the film. She got permission from Lenin to do some reporting in southern Russia, then returned home, though i don’t know how easy that trip could have been. probably easier than the trip getting there… but a simple sentence or two would have given closure to her, not to mention jack reed, who went on to be the only American buried at the Kermlin. I forget if they mentioned that in the film. Where are they now?

Going to catch up on Man in the High Castle. Not even sure I want to post this but what the hell.
