There isn’t much that sounds good when heard through the LinkNYC kiosk phone call feature, but if it’s loud enough it should at least sound like what it is. In this case it’s a few minutes of jackhammer noise on Third Avenue. Another chance I had at capturing something memorable would have been when a preacher was standing right in front of a kiosk, megaphone in hand, delivering his sermon on zany-sounding theories about separation of wealth and dignity. He was not a total crackpot but he was nuts enough to make me try and record him through the kiosk. But as often happens, the kiosk did not work. I felt I lost a true gem. Here, then, is a noise not shared for its beauty but for its righteous anger. I swear I hear words forming in the noises, as if a coherent voice is coming together.
