I struck up a brief conversation with the woman in this picture, seen standing in the middle of Fifth Avenue at 49th Street outside Rockefeller Center and Saks 5th Avenue. She, like I, was going around taking pictures of the ghost town and, more specifically, the signs put up by local businesses announcing their closure until further notice. “How long can this last?” I asked her, not expecting an answer. Saks, unlike Rockefeller Center, was closed. I descended into the Concourse of Rockefeller surprised the place was open. It felt like a germ tunnel. To wit I opened my PO Box 181 and found a key. The post office at Rockefeller Center long ago installed lockers meant to hold packages too big to fit into your PO Box. I don’t think they ever deployed these lockers until now, when it is safer to leave parcels there than hand them off directly.
