I don’t know why the map is not showing the streets I lived on. Look, there’s the highway I said led to the school, and the school seems to be there (maybe it changed its name) but the streets where I lived seem to be in some grey area between bigger roads. I used to drive up Valdosta Street to River Road before stopping at Ivy Lane and taking a left at the next street, which I swear was Pomegranate Drive, but why is it not on this map? A high school music teacher of mine lived there, too, but she moved there after we had already moved over to Washington Avenue (I can’t find that street on this map, either). Who makes these maps, anyway? I also can’t find the lake we used to swim in. We joked about how there must be monstrous turtles in that lake, though i can’t remember any more why that gag was so dependably funny. Always nice to laugh, I guess, but I sure wish I could remember why turtle jokes were so freakin’ hilarious. And I sure wish I could find

that damned lake on this strange map. I swear it’s like I didn’t really grow up in this area. Everything is gone, everything I knew, at least. Where is the movie theater where I first saw “Star Wars”? Where is the playground where I did Cub Scout achievement tests? Where is the mobile home park that I used to sneak into? Where is the bus stop outside the Circle K? Where is the little park where I used to watch cars and buses and trucks roll by?
