Walking into the outdoors, feeling like a fool walking about in this ridiculous rain, but needing a break from the monotony of the day.
I got a new bed, but I have not unboxed it yet. It is a gel memory foam pad thing, KING SIZE. I have thus reached the attainment of a longtime goal to have a King sized bed. I am going to see how it works out. The project of removing the old bed is more arduous than I might have imagined, or it seems it will be. The box containing the mattress weighed 108 pounds, prompting an uncommonly suspicious UPS delivery guy to ask for my assistance in getting it up the stairs.
If/when I move out of this place the costs are going to be considerabley more than when I moved in,, unless I just leave a bunch of big stuff behind, or die. The bed is heavy and unwieldy, the desk is a freakin’ mammoth, the TV is no easy haul…
I had become skeptical of the bed industry, reaching the conclusion that spending $3k on the One True Bed for All Times is simply not tenable or even attractive. You need to change styles of bed over time, I think. And the sales pressures dispensed by retail mattress shops was obnoxious enough for me to just say no to that route.
So tomorrow I set up the bed. Have to remove the old one, keep it handy in case this new mattress is a disaster, then figure out how to get the old ones downstairs. Also have to lose the noisy bed frame, a creaky old thing that I blame for significant lost sleep of late. Then I vcauum the area under the bed and decide what to do with whatever crap is under there now. The UPS guy (who I have never seen before) seemed uncommonly suspicious of my identity, repeatedly asking my name, apartment number, etc. Rookie.
I began the process of converting to King size bed a few months ago when I got a King size heated blanket (using it on the Queen size bed). A plan now shaping is to use this mattress for a while and then buy another one, placing it right on top of this one, for 22 inches of memory foam mattressosity. I was looking forward to having the bed unravelled tonight but it’s too late to vacuum and I’m too tired and crabby from a weird night of not drinking that much but feeling like I inhaled a distillery.
