A somewhat surreal encounter with an extremely loud and gaudy parade had me asking “Where is everybody?” There were exponentially more paraders than spectators on this sleepy side street, which seemed an unlikely choice of venue for such a parade featuring such lavishly crafted costumes and enthusiastic performers. I spotted these revelers on 38th Street between 48th Avenue and Greenpoint Avenue in Blissville, Queens The reasonable assumption is that the main parade (and the spectators, one hopes) were on the main thoroughfare of Greenpoint Avenue. I had places to go that afternoon, though, so I did not stick around to learn more about who these performers were or the focus of their celebration. It was pretty cool to see — and hear. A typical walk through Blissville on a weekend is a nearly silent affair.
