Where I was last week, in a vast, empty office, well-lit and air conditioned, unlike the other side of this place, where my usual desk is just too fucking stifling hot and gross. This is an organization that has the resources to rememdy such a condition but they choose not to.
This is a kind of scenario I dreamed of many years ago, before moving here. I must have been influenced by television. The dream of being safely employed in New York City, safely assigned a desk and workplace in a large office far above the rabble and the rousing outside. I sit here, at a comman post of sorts, as the homeless wallow and the ballers crash out from their all-night machinations. Everybody has their place on this shared earth and for the moment this place is mine.
