It is another stupor Sunday where I have the entire floor of a FiDi office building to myself. A few people will putter in and out but mostly I witness a sea of computer monitors wastefully left turned on at empty desks. This was never what I’d call an aspiration of mine, but it was something I imagined, a kind of predestinational fantasy that was never a fantasy, in my youth. Probably influenced by television I guess I saw some kind of romance or arrival in this scenario.
Received an odd voicemail yesterday, sent on Friday, from someone who claims my voice is rising up from his landline telephone. He said that at work, when nothing is happening, calls or voices (it’s unclear which) would rise from his landline telephone. He said it sounded like payphone calls. I’m not sure how he arrived at that conclusion, and my text-message response to him yesterday has so far gone unanswered. I know nothing of any of this but the payphone thing has, across the years, attracted some weirdlings who might do something like this. I mean, if it’s what I imagine it’s some robo-caller dialing this person up while connected to Payphone Radio either by phone or online. Why would anybody do that? I don’t know. It’s a business phone number which makes it less likely but not impossible that this individual is being targeted. I asked if anything useful showed on CallerID and if he’d made any recordings. I would be able to determine, I assume, if that really is my voice he’s hearing.
