I believe our energy is being rationed during the overnight. My cell phone battery ran down to 0%. I plugged it in to the fast charger and it said it would take 9 hours to charge. Normally it takes an hour and change to go from zero to 100%.

Speaking of zeroes I’ve been puzzled by this sign at the office, and I know I’ve seen similar signage in other places though I cannot remember where. The question is why did they use zeroes instead of the letter O in the word “DOOR”? They were doing so well with the other Os but for some reason, maybe as a quality control easter egg of some sort, they chose numbers instead of letters for one word. It does not appear that the “KEEP DOOR” line is actually a different font with slenderer Os. No, those are zeroes and I want to know WHY?

And speaking of dysfunctional or malfunctional signage I have repeatedly now seen this occur at a particular elevator at the Oculus. I believe it is identified as Elevator 12 and the starred floor is C2UL. There is, in fact, a slight whiff of something that a sensor could interpret as smoke, so I don’t think the activation of this screen is entirely without merit if only to demonstrate that the sensors are working. But it’s definitely not “IN FIRE” or anything close to it.

That’s funny, I thought cropping the video would reduce its size but it’s the same height as before, just with blackness where other stuff used to be. That’s now what I meant but I’ll let it go. This is not a nuclear power plant operation or a fine art studio. It’s just a desultory blog, a word I’ve always hated for its evocation of both “BLAH” and “LOG” where LOG is commonly used in my vocabulary to refer to turds. BLOG indeed.

I passed 20,000 steps yesterday, starting with a meetup of a few people in Brooklyn for what is described as a walking club, or croup. It’s been surprisingly easy for me to mesh with this format of meeting new people, though the walks for this group are over for the rest of the year until warmer weather returns. The 20,000+ steps started at Prospect Park then continued in Midtown/Penn Station area, where I was rebuffed in my attempt to purchase an 8GB memory card at B&H because the place was closed for Sukkot. I should have known that, seeing as I work with someone who is Jewish and took those three days off after explaining to me what it’s all about. After midtown/Penn Station I trained it back to Astoria where I basically just walked in meaningless patterns through some areas I had not been through in a while. The auto body shops on 21st Street are such a trip, especially if you have a thing for fonts.

The walk wiped me out, mostly on account of having consumed precious little food that day. I fell alseep before I even finished heating up a cheeseburger. I basically fasted the day, minus a small sandwich and some yogurt.

I had a distressingly clear dream that someone stole one of my phone numbers and reassigned it to the old Apology Line. I wish I could remember the name of the technique this person used to steal the number. It wasn’t SIM-swapping or anything like that, and obviously the technique in my dream does not really exist. But I remember it having a clever, funny name and I wish I could at least recall that for the humor.

Will I ever move on from my association with that Project? I would like to arrive at some sort of closure by obtaining the last-ever regular edition of the magazine, before the memorial issue that was published after Allan died. I only discovered its existence relatively recently but I’ve no leads on who might have a copy. No library seems to have it. Most recently I procured and digitized what appears to be the penultimate edition of the magazine. The cover image alone was worth the inflated price I paid for it.

I also had another dream that a woman where I work was showing up naked at the office and her ass was a magnificent thing to behold. I don’t talk to this woman at all and I don’t know where in my brain this crystal clear imagery came from.

My foot continues to bother me. I procured WIDE shoes and an insole support thingy but this only seems to make matters worse. Still, I got in 20k+ yesterday wearing them so maybe they are improving.  A follow-up appointment is soonish, I think. I go next week to see if the alleged macular degeneration I was diagnosed with 20 years ago is actually for real. I don’t think it is. There has been no progression and I think the symptoms are a result of looking straight at a solar eclipse when I was a kid in Laos.
